Hedrick Residential Restaurant

UCLA Dining Services offers a variety of dining options for students, faculty, staff, and guests. In summer session, we have an all-you-care-to-eat Residential Restaurants conveniently located in Hedrick Hall.

One thing that students always complain about Hedrick Residential Restaurant is that it is up on a hill. So that it takes a bit energy and time to get to the restaurant. But some people don’t look at it this way. They think it is great that the restaurant stands on the top of a hill, so that the students can have a good view of green fresh world while eating. True! No matter you have breakfast, lunch or dinner, if you sit besides a window, there’s always something special and beautiful for you, which is rare in a university’s cafeteria but maybe common in a star hotel. So why don’t you just enjoy the fresh air and nice view, oh, and your delicious meals. Let’s say, Sushi!

As we can see from the price table, the price for a meal in Hedrick Residential Restaurant is quite satisfying, I mean, if you’re familiar how the off-campus price there foods in general. And the environment, I have to say, is very much comfortable. Music is on but not so loud to annoy you, plates and bowls in different shapes are clean and shiny, most importantly, foods are fresh and of various kinds and are tempting you to make the fullest of your stomach space. Speaking of the eating environment, I do respect the hard working staff in Hedrick Residential Restaurant ---- I’ve never seen them having a rest. Thanks to their carefulness and hardworking, there are no dirty tables long existing and no shortage of forks and knives.

The most popular and well-known dish in Hedrick Residential Restaurant is, as mentioned just now, sushi. However, it is not provided daily, but rather, every Tuesday and Thursday. I guess the reason why sushi is not provided as frequently as other food is that it’s not easy to make. Different from many kinds of foods, sushi can only be made by hands, which means it takes a lot of time to prepare a meal with sushi.
At last,let's see the MENU~~

Is it delicious?I can't wait eating!

Rieber Hall

Rieber Hall
----by Noah, Lynn, Fly, serena

Rieber Hall, a residence for most of the students who study at UCLA, is located in the south-west of UCLA. It is a fantastic building with various free facilities, such as the computer lab, recreation center and music room. What impressed me most is the lounge which is in the center of every floor. With desks and sofas in the lounge, students can chatting and study in any time.

Like any dormitory, a front desk can be noticed in the first floor. The employers are regular students of UCLA and working here, doubtless, is their part-time job which not just can provide them extra money, but can rich their experience. A worker told us that he should be more patient in this summer because for most of the students in the summer session C, English is not their mother tongue and, as a result, he should make repetition constantly. However, he thinks this work is meaningful and he enjoys it. Accordingly, if you have any questions, do not hesitate; go ahead, they are pleasure to help you.

As a Chinese student, I study in UCLA only for Summer Session C. Rieber Hall to me is a sensible choice. In my own opinion, unlike my former dormitory in China, Rieber Hall offers me a better living condition and several perfect facilities. Especially, the computer lab satisfies my needs, such as printing and surfing online. I also enjoy the freedom in the hall because male students and female students are mixed here.

However, what a pity, because I indulge in experience the scenery and culture diversity in the UCLA, I fail to get familiar with my neighborhoods. A native told me that in the regular semester, it is easy to achieve this target. Another difference I get from the native is that in the regular semester, students can enjoy any of the three dinning hall, but, what a pity, during the summer vacation, some of them are not open.

Burger King has two of its own in-house national charitable organizations and programs. One is the Have It Your Way Foundation, a US-based non-profit corporation with multiple focuses on hunger alleviation, disease prevention and community education through scholarship programs at colleges in the US. The other charitable organization is the McLamore Foundation, also a non-profit, corporation that provides scholarships to students in the US and its territories.

Popular food

It’s a little WHOPPER® sandwich with a big taste. A flame-broiled beef patty topped with red ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, creamy mayo, ketchup, crunchy pickles, and onions-all on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Four pieces, eight pieces, twenty pieces. If you want 24 of the new, crispy Chicken Tenders, just order a twenty and a four. Thirty-two? Order a twenty, a four and an eight. What's that you ask? You want an odd number of Chicken Tenders? Easy. Order any amount, take one, dip it in some BBQ, Honey Mustard, Ranch, or Sweet & Sour sauce, eat it and presto. An odd remainder. (Frankly, most of the mathematical variety here will depend on you eating a few. Mmm. Crispy, delicious mathematical variety.)

Enjoy golden brown, piping hot, crispy and tasty French Fries with your favorite BK® Value Meal, or devour them as a side. Dip them in ketchup, barbeque sauce, your shake, or nothing at all. We won't judge. Just HAVE IT YOUR WAY®. * Price and participation may vary. Prices higher in AK & HI
Recommandation

In conclusion, we think that it is a good choice for students to have meals. Because the location is near the campus, the price is reasonable, the food is healthy and delicious.
Burger King, often abbreviated as BK, is a global chain of hamburger fast food restaurants headquartered in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The company began in 1953 as Insta-Burger King, a Jacksonville, Florida-based restaurant chain. After Insta-Burger King ran into financial difficulties in 1955, its two Miami-based franchisees, David Edgerton and James McLamore, purchased the company and renamed it Burger King.

Our Group Exploring the Community----Yang Wang, Wendy and Ying

Our group went to Burger King in the Westwood for our project last week.
And in this blog we are going to give out a brief introduction of the Burger King.
Additionally, as the member of our group came from different countries,
We made out a simple comparation among the Burger King in the United States, Japan and China.

Our introduction of Burger King

The Burger King Co. was founded in 1954 and has become the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world now. It operates 12,300 shops and serves over 11 million guests daily in 76 countries. Also, the menu of it has evolved from a basic offering of burgers, French fries and side items in 1954 in the United States to a larger, more diverse set of product offerings.
As BK expanded both inside and outside the US, it introduced localized versions of its products that are suitable for religious tastes and cultural or religious beliefs. For example, it adopts the ingredient of teriyaki in Japan, beer in Germany, Italy and Spain and so on. If you compare China with Japan, you can find some differences between them. In addition, in the countries occupied by Hindu, people have aversion to beef. Therefore, BK tried to use non-beef products such as TenderCrisp and TenderGrill sandwiches.

Our comparation of  Burger King in 3 different countries

The Burger King began to expand its locations outside of the United States in 1963. And at the beginning of 1982, BK started operating stores in several East Asian countries and it especially focused on three countries: Japan, China and India.

There are multi-tiered value menu and all items are cheaper compering with other countries. That’s because it competed with its competitor Wendy’s and that made BK add various items with cheap price like 99 cents and 1.99 dollars hamburger.

In 1993, the BK entered Japanese market at the first place. But due to high competition with McDonald and unfavorable management of BK, all of the Japanese locations were closed in 2001. Then, it reentered the Japanese market in 2007.
The price of the products is 400 yen (about 4 dollars in the U.S.A) on the average and the set value is about 700yen (about 7 dollars) but the size is much smaller than in the U.S.A. Also, there are less various items as you can see the menu. Also, BK manages 39 shops in Japan and they concentrate on the big cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

China
Burger King opened their first restaurant in China in 2005. In addition to American standards like the Whopper, BK is adding menu items with local flavor such as a hamburger seasoned with the spicy mala sauce of southwestern China.
However, when compared with McDonald’s and KFC, these western country fast food in China, BK is more expensive. Hence it is not so popular in China. There are 42 BK restaurants in total in China at present and mainly concentrated in some large cities like Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen etc.

The other day, we group picked the restaurant Burger King as our community exploring site. Always there are lots of customers there, including young and old, man and woman, even kids. So we are quite interested in how the restaurant run so well as to attract so many people. We asked several questions. The persons beside us were so warm-hearted,especially the two ladies we met, they were the patients lived in the nearby medical center, they proved their own answers. They told us their favourites here, and even wrote the names of the food (showed in the pic below) introduced the flavor of this restaurant. More, they recommended another popular cookie and ice cream shop to us, where there always were long queue.

It was pleasant experience and we enjoyed it very much.
The only problem was the that we could quite catch up a certain person when he/she was saying some numbers quickly.
